I didn’t wanna start a blog.
You read that correctly- I did not want to start a blog. If you know me personally, I’ve always been about fashion. Ever since I was little, I used to scrounged up fabrics and put my own spin on stuff I already had in my closet. I’m also the biggest thrifter you’ll ever know. Growing up I had mother-daughter bonding time driving around finding garage sales and weeding through clothes at Goodwill. I think I’m the same as every girl- I love to dress up but I don’t have the funds to ‘live my best life’ fashion wise. I’m thankful that fashion recycles itself so I can always turn to Goodwill to slay on a budget!
As you can see, fashion was always my thing- but I never really thought to make a fashion blog. I would post my outfits online and over time I had a ton of questions about where I shopped. Everyone was always shocked at the prices I would get my stuff for and most didn’t think you could find quality stuff at the thrift store! Over time people repeatedly insisted I made a blog, so I thought- okay okay, I’ll make one.
So I decided okay- let’s finally do this. I set up a photoshoot with an amazing photographer and during the shoot he said “Asia, you have great outfits and this is a great venue… but you’re not looking confident in your pics at all.” Ouch, right? It was then that I thought… can I really do this? Take pics regularly and have someone criticize them. And on top of all that- post them online for everyone else to criticize me? I ended up finishing the shoot, but I left very discouraged and came to the conclusion that I didn’t have enough confidence to ever do a blog.
Fast-forward two years later, I’m here- writing on my blog, posting pictures, talking about how I didn’t want a blog. Which leads me to begin to talk about how important your support system in your life is. Whether it be your family, your friends, your significant other- you are who you surround yourself with. Surround yourself with the dreamers, the believers and thinkers, but most of all, surround yourself with those who see greatness within you- even when you don’t see it yourself.
Sometimes in life you just need that extra push; that extra ounce of confidence to go for what you want in life. That bit of confidence came from my best friend and my boyfriend. They never failed to reassure me that fashion was indeed my calling. So as a result, I was able to cast my fears aside and finally put my all into creating this blog. (Not to mention the “I don’t give a sh-t what others think about me” attitude goes a long way).
There was the push, then there was the blog. Oh was I in for a surprise! I had no idea how much time it really took to create and maintain a blog. From the planning (and purchasing) of outfits, to the scheduled shoots, editing pics, coding, the site upkeep- spending “hours” on the blog is really an understatement! But it’s all 100% worth it to me. Time flies when I’m working on it because it’s something I really have a passion about. To whoever is reading this: the things you are passionate about are not random- they are your calling. Be fearless in the pursuit of what makes you happy. The cost of not following your heart is spending the rest of your life wishing you had. Go for it!
To wrap up this post- I want to thank every single one of you who took the time to read this and for checking the site out. This blog is not only a reflection of my style but it’s a reflection of my confidence in myself and a more importantly, a showcase of one of my passions in life. Thanks for making this dream a reality!
Also, just for some giggles here are some old #ootd (outfit of the day) pics from a few years ago- I came a long way!
