Hey all! So I’m gonna break down my birthday giveaway in 5 different parts:
- Who is Charity: Water
- Why I chose them and why I’m doing this
- Why you should enter
- Raffle rules
- Closing remarks
Charity: Water— who are they?
Charity: water is a non-profit organization bringing clean, safe drinking water to people in developing countries. The organization was founded in 2006 and has helped fund 24,537 projects in 24 countries- benefiting over 8.2 million people. Before choosing them, I actually did the research and they were the top-rated water charities in the world. The thing that stuck out to me about this specific organization- and the most important aspect- is that 100% of what’s donated goes to the cause. A lot of people don’t realize that a ton of charities only have a certain percentage actually being sent for aid, because they have operating (and other) costs to pay but with Charity:Water, the other costs are covered by private donors. So it is in fact- 100%.
For research purposes, you can find more info on that 100% on these articles:
Why am I doing this?
Globally, 663 million people live without easy access to clean water and 2.4 billion people lack access to improved sanitation facilities. (UNICEF) Did you know that 200 children die every hour due to unsanitary water?
One of the quotes I live by is: “Helping one person might not change the whole world, but it could change the world for one person.” Because we see moguls and celebrities donating millions of dollars to charity, I get the misconception that you can’t do anything to help, or that if you do, it wouldn’t make a difference. That’s definitely not the case. I firmly believe in a ripple-effect when it comes to giving back. As Mother Teresa once said, “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”
No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.
So instead of treating myself for my birthday, I wanted to give back. Although receiving gifts is great, the joy I get from giving back is more rewarding. To give more incentive for people to participate, I used my own money to buy the raffle prize. I also chose not to go through GoFundMe because I’ve seen it abused before- where people claim they’re raising money for something, and then turn around and use it for their own selfish needs. By creating a campaign directly with the organization, I wanted to cancel out the assumption that I would ever use these donations for my personal use.
Why you should enter:
- At little cost, you can potentially win a $100 gift card (I’m an avid Amazon shopper, and I know that $100 can go along way).
- The chances of winning are high- this isn’t a national contest or a radio contest with a crazy amount of entries.
- As stated above- you know exactly where the money is going.
- Even if you don’t win- your money isn’t wasted! You helped a family receive the necessity of water.
How to enter:
Go to this link: IslaHoney’s Birthday Campaign
- Click “donate”
- Enter the amount
- *Next step has important details*
Okay so for the name part, if you want to enter the raffle- you’ll have to put either:
a) Your full name (just in case we get multiples of the same names
b) Your social media name (i.e. mine is “islahoney”)
c) If you want to remain anonymous for your name and/or the amount you’re giving, follow these instructions (if you don’t mind putting your name or username, you can skip reading these instructions):
- Put a unique code name in the name bar (for example: I can put 55659)
- Enter the amount. Do NOT click the check for the box “Hide my name on the campaign”– I will not be able to enter you in the raffle because it’ll send to me as “anonymous” and I’m anticipating more than one “anonymous” donors. Your name will already be private by using a unique code. (Also a side note: when you’re taken to step 4 of these donate instructions, the website will ask you for your email– you need to put your actual email (and address for billing), because you will be sent a receipt of your donation.)
- With that receipt (again these are instructions for those who want to have their donation amount or name anonymous from the public), please forward it to my blog’s email: firstname.lastname@example.org
***This receipt will be the proof that you donated****
This is an example of the email you’ll receive:
There’s no other way to prove it’s you other than this tax receipt email (if you choose to remain anonymous). If you don’t do these necessary steps, I unfortunately won’t be able to determine that donation was from you, therefore you won’t be able to possibly win.
Once you fill out your email and billing stuff, you should be all set! Your donation will be posted to the campaign. After every submission (I receive email notifications immediately from submissions), I’ll jot down your name for entry to the raffle.
If you are entering the contest and don’t have an instagram, please go to rule #3, and follow the receipt forwarding instructions. You will have to forward me your donation receipt so I have your email (in case you win!). The photo above is an example of what you should be forwarding to me. There would be no way of contacting you if I don’t know you personally. Again, if you have an insta, you don’t have to do those steps.
Info about raffle:
To enter the raffle, you have to donate at least $5. $5 = one entry. So say if you donate $15- that’s 3 entries into the raffle.
If you share this post on your insta-story or facebook, you will receive an additional entry to the raffle. You must accompany the share with a donation though, in order to get the extra entry. For example: if you donate $5, and (screenshot) upload this to your instastory or facebook. That is 1 entry for the $5 + 1 entry for the share. If you choose to share it on multiple platforms, you get an entry for each one. For example: $5 donation + Facebook share + Instagram share = 3 entries into the raffle. If you have any other questions about how this works, feel free to contact me!
This is the flyer for the promoting: flyer
Please let me know when you promote it (or even tag me) so I can write down the extra entry in the raffle. I won’t be able to see every post unless I’m tagged or notified.
The raffle deadline is (the night before my birthday):
Monday- June 18th by midnight.
The winner will be announced via live raffle on Instagram live the next night on June 19th. If you made a donation/wish to enter the raffle, but don’t have an Instagram- that’s okay! The winner will be chosen on that platform, but I’ll still be announcing the winner via campaign (email), and will be emailing the e-gift card to the winner.
Thank you guys so so much for even taking the time to read this post. If you know me personally, I’m such a huge advocate on giving back to those in need. If you’re unable to donate- you can help support this campaign by spreading the word! Coworkers, friends, family, etc. All is appreciated! Let’s work to bring families the water they so desperately need! Thank you all!Tags: bayareablogger, birthday, community, lifestyle, lifestyleblogger, non-profit, philanthropy, sanfranciscoblogger
